About Under Floor Heating
Under Floor Heating (UFH) is far from a new concept, it was first used by the Romans, whose dwellings were constructed with voids through which air, warmed by an open fire, would pass, thus heating the structure.
Under floor heating is not a new concept in this country either. In the past electric heating elements were buried within floor screeds. These were heated over night using 'cheap rate' electricity. However, this method was expensive to run and uncontrollable and the building would over heat during the day but in the evening, when heat is generally required, no further heat was available.
We deal in wet systems; pipes are buried in screed, or run underneath the floor surface. Wet under floor heating systems operate by heat transferring from the water passing through the pipe directly into the floor. Because the whole area of the floor is warm, it heats the room more evenly.
Unlike radiators, under floor heating systems do not need to run at high temperatures. Heat imparted to the floor is released across a large area rather than the relatively small and focussed area of a radiator. As such, UFH systems do not need to operate at such high temperatures.
Typically, the temperature of the water in an under floor heating system pipe is 45 – 65oC (compare this to approximately 80oC flow and surface temperature of a radiator system) warming the floor to a temperature of 25 – 28oC, which is comfortable to walk on.
Single Room
This is where you have one room with Under Floor Heating and the rest in traditional radiators most common single room systems are in conservatory or kitchens with a new call towards bathrooms with Under Floor Heating, the possibilities for these single manifold systems are endless and they can be installed in a number of different ways,
Multiple Rooms
This is where you have multiple rooms or entire floors subjected to Under Floor Heating, where you have one 6-12 port manifold controlling each floor with individual temperature controlled rooms this is far becoming popular in new builds and refurbishments.
Custom System Design
Under Floor Heating is expensive to start off with but its more comfortable you have no radiators around the sides of your room meaning you have more space, better energy consumption and works well with green renewable energy, why not contact us today to arrange a quotation for your works, if you could let us have a copy of your plans before or during the visit this will greatly increase the speed in which we can quote you.
